"Stranger in the Village: Contemporary Drawings and Photographs"
2003-08-09 until 2003-10-20
Guild Hall Museum
East Hampton, NY,
USA United States of America
Organized by Jordan Kantor, Assistant Curator, and Elizabeth Mangini Beaumont and Nancy Newhall Curatorial Fellow, this exhibition features contemporary drawings and photographs in MoMA's collection. The works selected highlight common issues explored by artists
of divergent backgrounds, perspectives, and cultures, and reflect the
diversity of the Museum's contemporary acquisitions.
In recognition of the global reach that charaterizes MoMA's collecting practices, this exhibition presents such artists as Janine Antoni, Jose Bedia, Vija Celmins, Philip-Lorca diCorcia, Andreas Gursky, Arturo Herrera, William Kentridge, Martin Kippenberger, Louise Lawler, Glenn Ligon, Bruce Nauman, Chris Ofli, Paul Thek and Kara Walker, among others. While no means a comprehensive picture of contemporary practice, the exhibition does allow both the diversity and commonality of issues explored by these artists over the last two decades to emerge.
