"Printworks from the Fine Arts Department"
2003-08-14 until 2003-09-04
US Art Gallery
Stellenbosch, ML, ZA South Africa

Staff members and students of the Fine Arts Department, University of Stellenbosch were invited to contribute a printed artwork with no restriction in theme, scale or specific print medium to this exhibition, facilitated by Katherine Bull of the University of Stellenbosch. This exhibition will coincide with the 3rd Impact International Printmaking Conference held in Cape Town this year, and will hopefully inspire and encourage further critical exploration around aspects of printmaking and its continued relevance within contemporary art practice.

The artists have been encouraged to create work that extends and integrates with their ongoing area of theoretical/practical investigation. The staff members lecture across the different study areas offered by the department, namely Graphic Design, Jewellery Design, Fine Art and History/Theory of Art. The broad range of disciplines and areas of interest in which the staff are working should lead to an exhibition of prints that both challenges and extends the limits of printmaking within their contemporary practice.

Alongside the staff exhibition will be a selection of student work from the department. Printmaking is offered as an integrated component of the Graphic Design and Fine Arts programmes and as a means of expanding the students’ visual vocabulary in their search for the most appropriate medium for the development of an individual visual language.

This group exhibition of print works by staff and students of the Fine Arts Department, University of Stellenbosch includes the following names: Elizabeth Gunter, Sandra Klopper, Lize van Robbroeck, Marthie Kaden, Anton Kannemeyer, Jean Brundrit, Paddy Bouma, Kurt Campbell, Ronel Steyn, Alan Alborough, Kieth Dietrich, Vivian van der Merwe and Katherine Bull
