"Stephan Balkenhol: Sculptures, Photographs, Works on Paper and other Materials"
2003-09-10 until 2003-11-23
Sprengel Museum
Hannover, , DE

Stephan Balkenhol (born in 1957) has become one of the most internationally well-known sculptors of his generation, thanks to his distinctive figurative wooden sculptures, which established his reputation. This exhibition offers a glimpse into Balkenhol's studio. For the first time, Balkenhol has decided not only to show his sculptures and sketches, but also his collection of found objects. This collection is where he finds a great deal of inspiration for his work. This will be complemented by early photographs, which will be on view for the first time in the museum's Gallery for Photographic Arts. He has also realised new sculptures especially for the exhibition at the Sprengel Museum Hannover.

This exhibition has been made possible with support from the Stiftung Niedersächsische Volksbanken and the Raiffeisenbank. Two artist's books will accompany the exhibition (12 Euro for one, 20 Euro for both).
