Vancouver Art Gallery
Vancouver, BC,

Robert Smithson in Vancouver: A Fragment of a Greater Fragmentation will focus on the activities of the important American artist Robert Smithson in British Columbia in late 1969 and early 1970. Widely known for his large-scale "earthworks," Smithson was one of the leading figures in a generation of artists who radically challenged existing conceptions of art and its role within the broader culture.
Encompassing projects Smithson conceived in Vancouver, as well as work undertaken before and after his visits to the city, the exhibition will include drawings, photographs, sculpture, film and archival material.
