"Uniform: Robin Pacific - Collaboration with Protection Services Officers"
2003-09-24 until 2003-12-07
Art Gallery of Ontario
Toronto, ON, CA

An exhibition by Robin Pacific developed in collaboration with nineteen AGO Protection Services Officers on view throughout the Art Gallery of Ontario. In galleries we often encounter security guards as anonymous and silent symbols of authority. While guards play an essential role in directing the public and ensuring the safety of people and collections, we know little about their lives or their knowledge of the artworks they protect. Curious about the stories that exist "behind the uniform," artist Robin Pacific extended an invitation to all Protection Services Officers (PSOs) to share their histories and their reflections about the Art Gallery of Ontario. Nineteen guards accepted.

Their collective desire to make the unique personalities and opinions of fellow PSOs both audible and visible at the AGO is realized in UNIFORM, a series of photographic, audio and video installations throughout the galleries. The PSOs are:

Val Babychev, Roman Baran, Drew Carter, Shawn Devin, Patrick Grieve, Richard Guimond, Dennis Hinds, Karin Hollesen, Brad Johnson, Sharon Kiyoshk-Burritt, Fraser Lawson, Igor Litnovetsky, Diane McCaveney, Bill McIntyre, Paul McKeracher, Angus Muller, James Newstead, Mike Rodden, Kathleen Trumbley.

UNIFORM is supported by The Canada Council for the Arts through the Inter-Arts program and the Assistance to Art Museums and Public Galleries program.
