"Genthara: Luigi Ontani"

On Saturday October 11th, the exhibition 'Genthara' with work of the Italian artist Luigi Ontani opens its doors. The extensive body of work of Ontani contains an exceptional amount of influences, translated in different media; he makes paintings, sculptures, photo's, ceramics, glass, installations and performances. They always refer to various iconographic elements and unimaginably fantastic images.

The exhibition at the S.M.A.K. will bring together more than two hundred works from the period 1967-2003. Around thirty works were made for this exhibition. Genthara takes place as part of the Europalia Italia 2003 festival. You can visit this exhibition from October 12th 2003 until January 4th 2004.

Also at S.M.A.K. is 'FORSE ITALIA' - NICOLETTA AGOSTINI, PAOLO CHIASERA, LARA FAVARETTO, DANIELE PUPPI, PIETRO ROCCASALVA, CORRADO SASSI, DONATELLA SPAZIANI

As part of Europalia's Italy programme, the S.M.A.K. is presenting not only a major exhibition by Luigi Ontani, but is also giving several young Italian artists the opportunity to show their work in Ghent. Each of the seven artists is given a space on the ground floor of the museum in which to show their work. Some of them will create new pieces for the exhibition. Others will show recent work displayed in a new way.
