The City of San Antonio’s Public Art & Design Enhancement Program is seeking letters of interest along with qualifications from professional artists working in the traditional fine arts, multimedia arts, and design arts and residing in the U.S. for public art opportunities connected to the Terminal Expansion Project, a multi-million dollar capital improvement that will provide 2 new terminals to S.A.’s International Airport (SAT).
•San Antonio’s Airport System is operated by the City’s Department of Aviation. This department supports the 24-hour operation of the International Airport (SAT) and Stinson Municipal Airport. SAT has two existing terminals. Terminal One (T1) was built in 1984 and covers 395,000sf with 16 gates. Terminal 2 (T2) was constructed in 1953 with a satellite concourse added in 1968 and covers 210,000sf with 8 gates.
•In December 2000, City Council approved implementation of a terminal expansion project that will add Terminal B (7 gates) to Terminal 1 (now Terminal A), will remove Terminal 2 and construct a Terminal C in phases (11 gates), for a total of 31 gates. The entire project is scheduled for completion in 2008.
•SAT is located north of Loop 410, at its intersection with US281. With a population over 1 million, San Antonio is the ninth largest city in the U.S., and is located along the San Antonio River, between the Texas Hill Country and the Gulf Coastal Plains.
