"Holding Things Together: Borbonesa, Gemma Bruce, James Fergusson, Gary Foster, Alexe Dillworth"
2003-12-25 until 2004-01-05
Escape Bar and Art
London, , UK United Kingdom

HOLDING THINGS TOGETHER brings together a group of artists whose work explores the meaning of memories, both personal and those held by object and place. Through the media of painting, sculpture, printmaking and book art, the artists reveal that although intangible, memories are our only real possession.

As we live our lives, each and every one of us accumulate a hoard of memories, both pleasant and otherwise. This vast store of recollections takes shape as our lives progress, and becomes a likeness of the way in which we live. Although highly personal, there are certain elements which act as a trigger to memory for many of us, whether it be a song, the smell of rain on dry concrete or any other day to day occurrence. Memory not only sets us apart from each other, but also acts as a unifying bond. It is possible that objects and places through repeat use, accumulate an implied history, and bear silent witness to the passing of lives, events and action.

Each of the artists in this powerful exhibition will transport you to parts of your mind you may have long forgotten, or give new meaning to those experiences you take for granted. As is the nature of memory, you will not be confronted, but will find yourself slowly drawn into reverie.
