"Strike Black: Cynthia Edorh, e. Dawit L. Petros et Ramona Ramlochand"
2004-01-31 until 2004-03-06
Observatoire 4
Montreal, QC, CA Canada

STRIKE BLACK is an exhibition bringing together the work of three Canadian artists who examine race and culture in the visual arts. These new works are a response to racial discourses such as "multiculturalism", discourses that suggest egalitarian attitudes towards cultural diversity. While some observers insist that we have evolved "beyond race" in reality it remains fundamental and pervasive.

Race exerts a profound influence on matters of social identity, cultural forms, and systems of signification. This multi-disciplinary exhibit presents video and photographic works that assess how visual arts are inextricably linked to these various issues. The show expands and articulates the pressing need to re-examine categories of difference. The artists‚ diverse and mixed backgrounds present a compelling case for this.
