"John Klima: Toy World"
2004-02-07 until 2004-03-19
Bank
Los Angeles, CA, USA United States of America

Employing a variety of technologies to produce both hardware and software, John Klima’s work occupies new territory in media art. Works ranging from a 25-foot long railroad installation powered by telephone and Nintendo Game Boy to borrowed live satellite information to create 3D global landscapes reflects Klima’s interest in dismissing the boundaries between the simulated and the concrete.

John Klima’s solo exhibition at Bank will mark his Los Angeles debut.  A range of Klima’s work will be exhibited including the Great Game, a software program depicting U.S. Army troop movement and Air Force sortie data from the conflict in Afghanistan. This collected information from the Department of Defense is represented in a 3D game displayed on a monitor mounted to a coin operated kiddy ride.

John Klima has exhibited in museums and galleries in both the U.S. and Europe. His exhibitions include Bitstreams at the Whitney Museum of American Art as well as the 2002 Whitney Biennial. He has also exhibited at Eyebeam, The New Museum of Contemporary Art, PS.1 and The Brooklyn Museum of Art. Selections from his bibliography include the New York Times, the New Yorker and Business Week. John Klima is represented by Postmasters in New York.
