"Winand Staring: Abstraction In The Elements - On A Water Note"
2004-02-04 until 2004-02-28
Broadway Gallery
New York, NY, USA United States of America

NY Arts Books is pleased to announce the publication of "Abstraction In The Elements: On A Water Note" featuring the work of the Venezuelan-born Dutch artist, Winand Staring. Simultaneously with the publication of the book, Broadway Gallery is pleased to feature Staring in his first solo exhibition in New York. The show will exhibit new works by the artist,. "Winand Staring’s paintings show him to be a close observer of water, in all its metaphorical dimensions – water as tempest or calm resolution, as the very essence of expression itself – but they also tell us that he understands that a painting is firstly about its own making." -- Vivek Narayanan

"They walk the invisible line between abstraction and figuration and, given the unpredictable qualities of his subject, he managed to have it both ways... The artist’s works move from tormented reds to chilling Saharan yellows, and through a hundred moods of blue in between." -- from Vivek Narayanan’s "Containing the Tempest".

"Abstraction In The Elements: On A Water Note" is an essential monograph on international artists representing nature in the form of abstract art. The book includes sixteen essays written by the following writers and critics: John Perreault, Raul Zamudio, Mark Daniel Cohen, Piri Halasz, Jamie Dalglish, David Anderson, Maureen Dougherty, Erica Snow, Masaru Emoto, Jamey Hecht, Selma Stern, Greg Steinsieck, Vivek Narayanan, Esmeralda van der Hout, Roland K. Price and Danielle O’Steen. The artists discussed range from Pat Steir to Angelina Nasso, Jan Green, Francisco Infante and more. And there is an in-depth look at Winand Staring, whose paintings focus on nature’s most precious resource: water.
