"David Burns: From Savary Island"
2004-02-19 until 2004-03-06
Diane Farris Gallery
Vancouver, BC, CA Canada

David Burns grew up in Montreal and, after studying Fine Arts at Concordia University, came west to live and work in the rugged shoreline forest of the Pender Harbour area of British Columbias famously beautiful Sunshine Coast. His paintings over the years have captured the force and strength of the giant freighters that plow their way up and down the coast, the endless log booms being towed to their final destinations and the timeless experience of contemplating the ocean from the shore and vice versa.

Vistas From Savary Island are the subject of Burns latest body of work. As a result of spending several weeks this past year on the beautiful and historically interesting Savary Island, Burns has created a series of Zen-like paintings with vistas that look out towards Hernando, Cortez and Vancouver Islands and others on the Sunshine Coast.

Intrigued by the endless blues and grays, and a sense of peace created by the summer mists of the Georgia Straight, Burns paintings contemplate the infinite possibilities of the imagination.

These stunning landscapes the land, sea and sky around Savary Island were inspires the viewer to partake of the simple pleasure of sitting by the water dreaming into the horizon.

Burns feels that his work celebrates a sense of hope. The openness of the horizon creates space for the imagination to grow and aspirations to take form-giving ones self room to think, room to dream, room to imagine, room to believe.
