Karin Weber presents Hanoi based artist Mai Anh
in a solo exhibition during March. ' When I paint,' the artist states, ' I feel as if I am in a dream, only focused on the work itself.' Mai Anh was born in 1961in Thanh Hoa province. In 1981 she graduated from Fine Arts College in Vietnam. This show explores the artists recent oil paintings.
Mai Anh is quietly emotional and determined. In her impressionst/expressionist oeuvre she goes her own way, mining her memories and experiences and observing the rituals and concerns of women around her. At times her paintings seem to be the narrative of the solitary and lonely, but one discerns a certain hope, a brighter day.
