Dennis Michael Jones, will have a solo
exhibition of drawings, paintings and sculptures at the Robert Kidd Gallery, located in Birmingham, Michigan during May and June. Jones was recently awarded a second place cash prize for his entry into the Michigan Fine Arts Competition, held at the Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center. His work was included in the 2003 Regional Drawing Exhibition at the Elaine L. Jacob Gallery, juried by Dominic Molon, Curator from the MOCA in Chicago.
Born in 1959 and originally from Detroit , Dennis Jones now resides in Plymouth , Michigan . He is a licensed practicing architect and artist. He completed his formal education as an architect from the University of Detroit in 1984. He then went on to Wayne State University and received his Master in Fine Arts degree in 1990. He has taught color theory, architectural design and drawing at The College for Creative Studies, University of Detroit , Wayne State University and Macomb County Community College . Several architectural firms employed him as a project designer through the 1980's, until he began his own architecture studio in 1992.
Dennis Jones had a large one-person show in early 2003 at the 4731 Gallery in Detroit. He won a, "Best of Show Award", for his triptych painting entry to the “Artists Among Us Exhibition", a juried, traveling exhibition, involving poets and musicians reactions to the visual arts. In July, 2002 he installed a permanent outdoor sculpture at the Plymouth Community Arts Center and then, in August 2002, he completed a significant commission to design and install a large 19' by 10' mural and stone sculpture located in the new Plymouth High School. Several of his outdoor sculptures were on exhibit in the city of Saugatuck, Michigan, participating in the city's Art'roundtown exhibition, which were exhibited for one year. He has exhibited his art at several Michigan galleries, including the Tangent Gallery, Joanne Winkleman Hulce Gallery (a.k.a. Plymouth Community Arts Center), Buckham Gallery, Willis Gallery, Swidler Gallery, Michigan Gallery and the Detroit Artists Market. The Detroit Artists Market awarded him a 1988 Scholarship Award. He received a Second Place Design Award in the International New York Vietnam Veterans Memorial Competition in 1984.
