"Call for Artists: 2004 Northwest Annual"
2004-06-09 until 2004-08-15
Center on Contemporary Art
Seattle, WA, USA

From October 9th through November 20th CoCA presents the 2004 Northwest Annual; a juried exhibition now in it's fifteenth year at CoCA. The Northwest Annual is open to all professional artists residing in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The Northwest Annual is an opportunity for artists to gain regional and national exposure and serves as a vital showcase for experimental work and emerging talent. CoCA is accepting submissions for the following media: painting, sculpture, photography, mixed media, works on paper, and video.

THE JUROR

KEN LUM

Ken Lum’s contribution to the arts is enormous and well-noted: as an internationally celebrated visual artist, as a professor, as an editor and writer, as a curator and juror, and as a Board member and founder of numerous important arts organizations.

Ken Lum, who has exhibited in Biennales in Venice, Sao Paolo, Johannesburg, Havana, Sydney and Shanghai as well as in Documenta XI and Carnegie International, has developed a complex body of work that includes Furniture-Sculptures, Portrait-Logos, Language Paintings, Photo-Mirrors and, most recently, site-specific public art projects. All of his work involves the dialectics of private and public constructions of identity, space and politics.

Ken Lum has been with the Department of Art History, Visual Art & Theory, University of British Columbia, since 1990. Since his arrival in the Department, Professor Lum has also taught two years as Invited Professor at L' école Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris as well as a full term in the same capacity with the Akademie der Bildenden Kunst in Munich. Professor Lum was awarded a Killam Award for Outstanding Research in 1998 and made a Guggenheim Fellow also in 1998.
