"Fashination: Art and Fashion"
2004-09-25 until 2005-01-23
Modern Museum
Stockholm, , SE

Fashination looks at the mutual fascination between art and fashion. Throughout history, the two worlds have often merged in their attraction to the visual, the tactile and the experimental. Over the past ten years, however, this exchange has intensified. The exhibition will consist of new work, selected material from previous collections, fashion photography and objects. Yinka Shonibare will also launch his first film, made in collaboration with Swedish Television.

Throughout the 20th century, fashion and art have repeatedly cross-fertilised one another. This exchange was at its most intense during three periods: 1920s surrealism, 1960s pop art, and now, since the early 1990s. It is this latter period that is the focus of Fashination. Not because we claim that fashion has become art, or that art is fashion, but simply to pose a few questions in the borderland between the two.
