"Call for Curators: Visions to Organize Future Shows"
2004-10-04 until 2004-11-15
Arts Center of the Capital Region
Troy, NY, USA United States of America

The Arts Center of the Capital Region in Troy, NY, as part of our ongoing commitment to organize innovative quality exhibits, is currently seeking established, professional outside curators with vision to organize future shows in our Main Gallery. We unite nationally recognized artists with regional artists, and produce catalogs of the exhibits that include essays as well as images of exhibits. The Arts Center is located one city north of Albany on the Hudson River in Troy, NY. Our large facility houses many studios for classes, a 100-seat theater, folk arts gallery, as well as an 1800 sq. ft. contemporary arts gallery.

We have worked with such curators as Ian Berry from the Tang Teaching Museum, Jessica Hough from The Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art, Lisa Dorin from Williams College Museum of Art, and most recently Susette Min, Marisa White, and Luis Camnitzer of The Drawing Center, NYC.

We pay a fee to the curator as well as stipends to all exhibiting artists, and will try to the best of our ability to cover curators’ travel and lodging expenses. The Arts Center will be responsible for installing, organizing, contacting artists, paying insurance, designing catalog, shipping work if necessary, and paying stipends to artists.

Exhibits are shaped in a few ways; with a call for slides, or by utilizing our extensive slide registry. With a call for slides the center could deliver the slides to you for review then wait for selections, or you are welcome to travel here to review. We ask for a brief essay (250-500 wds), and we encourage curators to come to opening receptions to give a gallery tour. There are a few seasonal umbrellas developed for 2005 -2006 season, such as Whimsy, or Earth, that a curator could work with, or develop their own.

If you are interested please send a brief description of your exhibition, no longer than 200 wds. in length, current CV, and previous exhibition documentation, by November 15, 2004 in order for us to place the listing in our annual call for shows that are slated for September 2005- June 2006. If curators are interested in sending along complete proposals including previously selected artists, include examples of artists including resumes, digital, slide, video, or DVD form images, as well as materials representing experience as a curator such as current CV, and past exhibition examples in the form of catalogs, etc.
