Indepth Arts News: "Saints and Sinners: Tony de Carlo, Reuben Munoz, Antonio Rael, Otto “Tito” Sturcke, Mauro Yrigoyen, Alejandra Vernon" 2004-10-23 until 2004-11-27 Icaro Gallery Long Beach, CA, USA United States of America
Saints and Sinners explores the dichotomy of mankind. It looks at good and evil,
joy and sadness, triumph and failure, life and death. It encompasses aspects of All
Saints Day and Halloween. It considers secular and religious viewpoints. Some of
the work is subtle while others are more obvious. Saints and Sinners engages the
viewers to consider various facets of themselves.
The work in the exhibition reflects each artists’ unique style and vision.
Vernon’s mixed media pieces are finely detailed with numerous elements to
discover. Her use of perspective gives the image an almost three dimensional feel.
Yrigoyen’s painting depicts a moody setting that portrays the agony and the ecstasy
of the subject even though the face is not visible. Munoz uses multiple layers of
paint to build his images. Rael and de Carlo both use vibrant colors and symbolism
to create work that is both simple and complex at the same time.
