Two Calls for Proposals at Oakville Galleries in Oakville, Ontario are being offered. Canadian independent curators are invited to submit a written concept for an exhibition at Oakville Galleries at Centennial Square. Oakville Galleries is dedicated to developing a thoughtful and stimulating forum for curatorial practice. New research and exhibition initiatives from emerging curators are encouraged. In addition, Artists, writers and cultural producers are invited to submit a written concept for a community residency with Oakville Galleries's Site Scope programme, a two-year public programmes initiative supported by The Ontario Trillium Foundation.
1. INVITATION TO INDEPENDENT CURATORS
For the curator opportunity, the suggested exhibition shall:
- run from 9 September - 2 November 2005, opening on 8 September 2005.
- fit an exhibition space of approximately 205 square metres.
- adhere to an exhibition budget of $11,500 (excluding curatorial fees).
The principal aim of the proposed exhibition is to encourage and explore experimental approaches to the presentation of contemporary visual arts, particularly approaches that reflect Oakville Galleries's mandate.
This programme provides practical training in preparing critical paths, methodology, contracts, public speaking and preparing a text for publication in Oakville Galleries's newsletter, Og2. A research, curatorial and writing fee of $3,500 will be paid for the exhibition proposal that is selected.
All proposals should include:
- a project description (maximum 2 pages)
- visual documentation of the proposed work
- a detailed budget of expenses.

2 . CALL FOR COMMUNITY RESIDENCY PROPOSALS
Artists, writers and cultural producers are invited to submit a written concept for a community residency with Oakville Galleries's Site Scope programme, a two-year public programmes initiative supported by The Ontario Trillium Foundation.
This year, Oakville Galleries offers the theme of "edge zones" for the 2005 Site Scope programme. We invite proposals in which the community is engaged in an exploration of the experience of boundaries, penetrable and impenetrable borders. Proposals are encouraged which use public space and the Site Scope project Web site as complementary platforms for community involvement. Oakville Galleries offers a fee of $4,000 (CAN) for each Site Scope project. Residents are lodged within Oakville Galleries in Gairloch Gardens in a self-contained apartment with computer and Internet access, and receive technical support for the Web site design.

- Project Proposal: a concise one-page summary of your project with an explanation of its relationship to the theme
- C.V. and biographical information
- if applicable, no more than 15 images (photographic prints, slides, CDs, and video will be accepted. If sending materials electronically, please do not send more than 3MB in total).
