Up the Stairs Gallery (non-profit) in Wicker Park, Chicago ahve have a lovely space and a growing following (the gallery
was started by the Around the Coyote art organization). The gallery hosted their first exhibition in January 2004 and are accepting submissions for he 2005 exhibition calendar.

All submission packets must include six copies of your resume with complete
contact information, 6 copies of an artist's statement briefly describing
the work represented in the submission packet and a self-addressed, stamped
envelope for the return of all materials. Materials will not be returned

EXHIBITION OF ARTWORK send: one sheet of slides (8-1.2 x 11 inch, 3-hole
punch sheets please), OR no more than 10 printed images (in 8-1/2 x 11 inch
plastic sleeves with 3-hole punch). Each image must be clearly labeled with
complete contact information as well as the title, date, dimensions and
materials of each piece. If any submitted pieces have been previously
exhibited include the date and location of exhibition. Only submit work that
is currently available for sale and exhibition.
FILM SCREENING SERIES submissions are accepted in VHS format or DVD and
label must include the length of the video, year it was made, title, and
format. Films on any subject, on no subject, and of any style are accepted.
Trailers or excerpts from films are not acceptable. Each film can be no
longer than 30 minutes and filmmaker must own copyright. Entire length of
submission can be no longer than 60 minutes. If any part of the submission
has been publicly screened please include the date and location of
screening. Please specify technical requirements for screening of your
submission.
AUDIO submissions for sound art or as an accompaniment to dance, film or
readings must be made in CD form and must include the length of the
submission. If live musicians are intended for performance please specify
what instruments and how many musicians. Please specify technical
requirements in your artist's statement.
SPOKEN WORD/LITERARY submissions can be of any form or subject, but reading
length of each piece must be no longer than 30 minutes. If sending hard-copy
submissions, please send six copies of each piece (all copies to include
complete contact information). Author should expect to read their own
material, but exceptions can be made. For plays and screenplays author must
provide actors for reading (the gallery can provide names to help in
casting). Include in resume your experience giving readings. Please include
any technical requirements including lighting and sound that may accompany
your piece.
PERFORMANCE ART AND DANCE submissions can be made either in the form of
photography, VHS, DVD or written form. At least one example of a previous
performance on VHS or DVD must be included. Please provide a specific
account of what you will be doing, why you will be doing it, how long you
will be doing it, and what technical specifications you have.
INDEPENDENT CURATORIAL submissions should include a press release including
possible dates for show, announcement card design (see PSPRINT.com for
specifications), resumes, price histories and artist statements for each
artist included in show as well as a curator's resume. A labeled image of
each piece to be included in the show, as well as installation requirements
must also be included. Curators are responsible for costs of promotion,
insurance and installation of their show.
