"Modigliani: Beyond the Myth"
2004-10-23 until 2005-01-23
Art Gallery of Ontario
Toronto, ON,
CA
This exhibition offers an unparalleled opportunity to examine the work of one of the 20th century’s most enigmatic artists, whose singular vision still resonates powerfully today. Modigliani: Beyond the Myth will examine Modigliani’s self-identification with his Sephardic heritage and the ways in which this ethnic tradition contributed to his art.
The exhibition will demonstrate how the artist’s highly focused body of work - consisting almost entirely of portraiture - reflects this intellectual, religious, and political heritage, despite his uniquely modernist style.
Incudes paintings, drawings and sculpture from private and public collections in the United States, Canada, Europe, South America and Australia.
This exhibition has been organized by The Jewish Museum, New York, and was
made possible by the Jerome L. Greene Foundation.
