Version 2004 - SIMulation City which is going to take place from 12 November - 19 December 2004 at the Centre for Contemporary Images, Geneva, will explore the increasingly close ties between the new digital technologies and our daily environment, turning a critical eye on the question of urban space in particular.
Today, new digital technologies are scrambling the concept of distance and breaking down not only physical but also social and psychological limits. At the same time, the public and private spheres are ever more intermingled. How are contemporary artists analyzing these new realities and how are they coming to terms with this notion of “hybrid worlds,” in which the real and the virtual are combined?
Version 2004 will include a group show (Peter Aerschmann, Tobias Bernstrup, collectif fact, Jonah Freeman, John Pilson and Tania Ruiz), a performance both in the city and online (Blast Theory), a series of lectures, several presentations of interactive projects created by art students, and the projection of a number of films. All of these events represent in a sense as many different ways of deciphering and interpreting urban space, enabling visitors to explore forms of human behavior generated by contemporary architectural structures.
