"Celia Washington: Unquiet Thoughts"
2004-11-24 until 2005-01-16
Landings Gallery
Edinburgh, , UK United Kingdom

Scottish born artist Celia Washington returns to the Landings Gallery with UNQUIET THOUGHTS, an exhibition of intriguing new paintings. Born in Edinburgh, Celia Washington trained in London, and has subsequently travelled extensively around the globe. Celia's uses a bright and bold palette to create intense works drawing the viewer into the dark night of her imagination, of grotesque creatures that are part human, part mythical, and who seem to inhabit an anarchic underworld. Washington uses symbolic imagery and dark comic undertones to communicate the "incompleteness" or imperfection of the human condition.

About Celia Washington's work:

"Her evocatively coloured and boldly drawn figurative work, like that of many other Scottish artists, reflects a deep fascination in poetic, psychological myth and symbolic legend." (Bill Hare - Galleries)

"Her paintings cut through the superficial realities of contemporary life, confronting the onlooker‚s deepest emotions, dreams and fantasies."

This exhibition is supported by ROSL ARTS the arts division of the Royal Over-Seas League.
