Indepth Arts News:

"Austrian Artist Heimo Wallner Draws on the Walls."
2004-12-04 until 2004-01-02
Hotcakes
Milwaukee, WI, USA United States of America

Hotcakes will feature a solo show by internationally-known, Austrian artist, Heimo Wallner, from December 4, 2004 - January 2, 2005. Wallner's drawings, manipulate body parts, actions, and expressions to create what he refers to as "a vocabulary of emotions." The images serve as symbols for words representing a compendium of life's experiences. Body language becomes a means for expressing the emotions that derive from human interaction and individual struggle or achievement.

The primary protagonist in Wallner's work is a naked male with a mask-like face and empty eyes--a sort-of elemental, detached "everyman." His behavior is often vulgar, violent, and self-destructive. The exaggerated nature of the forms and actions, however, allows the work to be simultaneously dark and humorous.

Whereas Wallner usually draws directly onto a gallery's walls, Hotcakes created an unique installation space in which the artist is drawing upon removable, floor to ceiling boards of varying sizes. For the first time, gallery patrons may purchase one or more sections of one of Wallner's installations. Panels are priced to scale with anyone's budget (small-$90, medium-$260 and large-$720). Hotcakes will also be selling Wallner's prints, records and t-shirts.
