"Call for Artists: HOMOMUSEUM - Heroes and Moments"
2005-01-07 until 2005-02-01
Exit Art Gallery
New York, NY,
USA United States of America
What do Alexander the Great, Gertrude Stein, J. Edgar Hoover and Andy Warhol have in common? Homosexual politicians, architects, inventors, athletes, scientists, and artists have shaped our global contemporary culture. The Homo Museum will investigate lesbian/gay/bisexual/transgender (LGBT) icons and histories which have made their mark on the political, social, economic, and cultural landscape.
The exhibition is a response to the tremendous influence that gay culture has had on mainstream culture and will investigate how homosexuality is defined and expressed by queer artists today.
For the exhibition Exit Art is asking LGBT artists to choose a historical moment or person in the gay community that has influenced local, national or global culture and create a conceptual portrait or work of that person, event or place.
