Fountain Gallery, located at 702 Ninth Avenue at 48th Street, is pleased to announce the opening of Chasing the Light, featuring paintings by Amy Koy and sketches by Jonathan Glass. The exhibition is curated by Ruth Parson and Steve Harlow. The title of the show refers to essential light reflecting from objects - defining shapes, indicating life, captured by artists in drawing or painting, said Ruth Parson.
Added Steve Harlow, The title could apply to photography, but in this show we are demonstrating a timeless art, the art of hand rendering a visual representation with color and line on canvas and paper.
Painting in oils, Amy Koy observes her models in the studio light of the Art Students League ñ a controlled, contemplative environment. Jonathan Glass creates in the hubbub of the outside world ñ chasing the light of the blazing sun of Central Park or the variable stage lighting of a jazz club, uncertain if his subject will remain long enough for him to finish a sketch.
