"Munch by Himself"
2005-02-20 until 2005-05-15
Modern Museum
Stockholm, , SE

The major exhibition at Moderna Museet this spring! On 19 February, Moderna Museet in Stockholm will open Munch by Himself, a unique exhibition featuring the Norwegian artists self-portraits. Never before have so many of Munchs self-portraits been brought together in one show. The self-portraits run like a red thread through Edvard Munchs (1863-1944) oeuvre.

Hardly any other artist has portrayed himself so ruthlessly and exposed himself as Munch does in his self-portraits that centre on issues of identity, exploring his role as artist and human being in society and focusing on his relationship to life, love and death.

The exhibition is produced by Moderna Museet and will move on to the Munch Museum in Oslo, 11 June - 28 August, and the Royal Academy of Arts in London, 15 September - 11 December.

A richly illustrated catalogue written by the exhibition curator, Iris Müller-Westermann, will be available for the exhibition, 208 pages and some 160 colour pictures.
