"Call for Artists: Great Lakes Region - Juried Exhibition"
2005-03-18 until 2005-06-11
River Gallery
Chelsea, MI, USA United States of America

River Gallery is a fine art gallery located in historic downtown Chelsea Michigan representing both emerging and established artists. We are coordinating a "call for entries exhibition" for the Great Lakes Area, juried by Sean Ulmer, Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at the University of Michigan Museum of Art.

History River Gallery, a fine art gallery formerly located “upstairs” in historic downtown Chelsea has just completed a 3,200 square foot renovation of an historic 1898 Main Street building. Since their beginnings in 2000 the gallery has hosted exhibits for Gerome Kamrowski (1914-2004), Mignonette Yin Cheng, sculptor Wendel Heers and other well known national and regional artists. The gallery features paintings, sculptures, textiles, ceramics and prints. Since moving to this lovely old building the gallery has also hosted corporate, private and musical events. Gallery Hours: Tuesday - Thursday 11-5 Friday and Saturday 11-8, Sunday 12-4

Juror

University Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art Sean Ulmer joined the UMMA staff in July 2001. He came to this newly created position from the Herbert F. Johnson Museum at Cornell University, where he had a broad curatorial profile as Assistant Curator of Painting and Sculpture. Prior to his five years at Cornell, Sean was Exhibitions Coordinator at Ohio State University's Wexner Center for the Arts-one of the nation's leading centers for the exhibition of contemporary art. Sean received a B.A. in Art History from the University of Toledo / Toledo Museum of Art and his M.A. in Art History from Ohio State University.

Awards

River Gallery is honored to have Sean Ulmer as juror for our first competitive exhibition and is pleased to offer an award of $2,000 for his selection of Best in Show, $1,000 for first prize and other prizes totaling $2,000.
