"Satoshi Matsuyama: Images from the Garden Island of Kaua'i"
2005-05-01 until 2005-05-31
Prestige Gallery
Sapporo, , JP Japan

This exhibition during the month of May 2005 features new work by Satoshi Matsuyama. The original plan for the trip was to shot on location on Oahu island - the end reslut is from the artists travels to Kauai Island. This past January was the first experience for me to spend the days in Kauai island to take photos. From these photos I have released 3 of new works for this Spring exhibition, states Satoshi Matsuyama.

This work is based on theLimahuli Valley and Mt. Makana, on the north shore of Kauai island. About half mile before the end of the road 560, you come to Limahuli Stream. The floor of Limahili, a lush tropical valley bordered by awe-inspiring pinnacles, remains lined with ancient taro terraces and rare native Hawaiian plants that flourish in Limahuli Garden. Ive heard that Lumihai Beach near the Limahuli Valley is meaning TWISTING OF FINGERS in English . TWISTING OF FINGERS, view of these mountains in this area remind of me the hand gesture of Aloha - Spirit of Love. And Mt. Makana in the right side of this image is means The Gift in English. Many people have used this stream to rinse off the saltwater after their day at Kee beach or after working at taro terraces.Taro and cold water, that is the gift from Love. explains Matsuyama about his work Twisting of Fingers and the Gifted Rinse to Wash Away.
