"Metamorphoses of a Medium: Prints from the Collection of the Slovak National Gallery 1960 – 2000"
2005-05-18 until 2005-06-18
Sasol Art Museum, University of Stellenbosch
Stellenbosch, , ZA South Africa

Metamorphoses of a Medium: Prints from the Collection of the Slovak National Gallery 1960 – 2000 is displayed at the Sasol Art Museum in Stellenbosch and presented by the Embassy of Slovakia, Pretoria, South Africa. The graphic oeuvre of Slovak artists from the second half of the twentieth century has been frequently presented abroad. The collection of prints on view illustrates the development of Slovak visual arts from the 1960s to the present through the medium of graphic art. This complex view is more comprehensible: it shows a range of original art concepts regardless of the artists’ training or major concern.

The collection also demonstrates the character of acquisition policy of the Slovak National Gallery. The exhibition shows the work of leading protagonists of Slovak graphic art, the artists who dedicated their entire creative potential to this discipline, and the representatives of major tendencies, or attempt to offer a complex survey of the development of graphic art.
