"Manipulation of Body and Mind: Artwork by Jody Krevens and Stephanie Sypsa"
2005-06-04 until 2005-07-29
Studio Ash
Columbus, OH, USA United States of America

At Studio Ash through July 2005, Manipulation of Body and Mind showcases a unique combination of mixed media photography and performance art by two Columbus CCAD alumni Jody Krevens and Stephanie Sypsa. Krevens and Sypsa illustrate specific acts of physical and mental metamorphosis. Their work manifests tension through the act of translation, as their images are seemingly caught midway in the process of revision.

Krevens shows revision through correction of the body by mimicking medical prosthetics and machinery. She comments on the physical extremes that people undergo to achieve an ideal of perfection.

Sypsa displays revision by editing photographs of human forms to a point of diminishment. She illustrates the process of mental recollection and memory retrieval, where imagery becomes altered and lost over time.

Each work displays a sense of identity loss as seen in Kreven's mannequin-like models that personify anonymity and Sypsa's translation of individual characteristics into the vague.

Stephanie Sypsa is a Premiere Portfolio Artist at absolutearts.com. View more of her work at: http://www.absolutearts.com/portfolios/s/sypsa/.
