"Breakable Art: Contemporary Glass and Ceramics from Norway"
2005-06-07 until 2005-08-26
Scandinavia House
New York, NY, USA United States of America

This exhibition features more than 50 recent works by 24 of Norway's most innovative and influential glass and ceramics artists. Organized by the Royal Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the exhibition includes both established names and emerging young talents and demonstrates the dynamic developments in the decorative arts that have been taking place in Norway in recent years.

Comprised of objects using a variety of techniques and materials, the works on view range from the figural to the abstract and represent a wide range of color, form, and function. Some of the objects engage with figurative ornamentation and traditional forms like plates and vessels, while others explore more expressive, non-utilitarian themes. Breakable Art blurs the age-old distinction between fine art and decorative art, indicating that contemporary glass and ceramic art can take the form of a sculpture, but it can also be a vase or a cup.
