The Sommerwende International Arts Festival is an annual event in the heart of Europe. Taking its name from the German word “Sommersonnenwende”, meaning Summer Solstice, it incorporates an age old Nordic tradition of celebrating the Mid-Summer’s Night with an array of cultural events and activities. In the forefront of this annual festival is the intergration of multiple facets of the arts: visual, performing, fashion and culinary into a cohessive celebration of cultural diversity and uniqueness.
Artists from around the world will participate in this year’s festival. The milieu for the scheduled events is a group exhibition of visual artists to be on display at the GALLERY twenty-four/ARTLINE:berlin cultural center in Berlin-Friedrichshain. From this focal point various lineups of activities and programs will be offered to provide for a four week long rejoicing of summer.
The festivities commence with the Vernissage for the group exhibition and be augmented throughout the subsequent two fortnights to provide for an agenda which embraces the arts as the centerpiece of unity. An assembling of inspiring engagements from wine tastings, fashions shows, theater performances, readings & recitations through to musical soirees will ensure that the visitors to this year’s festival have a memorable experience.
25 artists were chosen to participate in this group exhibition at The Gallery Twenty-Four. The exhibition will be held from June 8, - July 5, 2005. Amoung the artists, the selection committee for the 2005 Sommerwende International Arts Festival chose MONICA ZACHARIAS following works for inclusion in this year's event:
