"Linda Vallejo: Recent Paintings"
2005-06-11 until 2005-07-23
Patricia Correia Gallery
Santa Monica, CA, USA United States of America

Patricia Correia is pleased to present recent- paintings by Linda Vallejo. In this, her first solo show at the gallery, Vallejo brings to bear the physical and spiritual power of the natural world. Vallejo's romantically seductive paintings are imbued with the artist's deeper aesthetic concern to integrate the forgotten. Through these paintings the viewer is transported. Whether it is the violent surge of a storm or the heavy stillness of silent desert air, Vallejo demonstrates her strength and ability to harness the tension and forces of nature in each dramatic composition.

Born in California, Linda Vallejo studied lithography at the University of Madrid, Spain before receiving her Master of Fine Arts degree in printmaking from California State University, Long Beach, CA in 1978. Vallejo's work has been featured in numerous exhibitions: East of The River, Santa Monica Museum of Art, Santa Monica, CA (2000); Across The Street, traveling exhibition, Armand Hammer Museum, Los Angeles, CA (1997), Laguna Art Museum, Laguna, CA (1997), and Anchorage Museum of History and Art, Anchorage, AK (1996); CARA, traveling exhibition, Bronx Museum of Modern Art, New York, NY, San Antonio Museum, San Antonio, TX, and Mexico City Modern Art Museum; The Dark Madonna: Women, Culture, and Community Rituals, University of California, Los Angeles, CA (1986) and Espina, Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions (1980). In 2005, Vallejo will exhibit at the International Modern Art Biennale, Florence, Italy. Linda Vallejo is slated for an exhibition at the Natural History Museum, Los Angeles, CA, in 2006, focusing on the beauty of the California landscape and the devastating effects of environmental pollution.

Linda Vallejo has been a guest lecturer and instructor at Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Los Angeles, CA, Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, CA, Fresno Art Museum, Fresno, CA, California State University, Long Beach, Long Beach, CA, Santa Monica City College, Santa Monica, CA, and University of California, Irvine, Irvine, CA.
