"Call for Artists: Of Boerekitsch and Other Things"
2005-07-18 until 2005-07-30
gordart Gallery
Johannesburg, , ZA South Africa

Following on from the success of the Porn Again  exhibition, Gordon Froud of gordart Gallery in Melville will be putting together another exciting show at Merely Mortal, 357 Jan Smuts Avenue, Craighall.  of Boerekitsch and other things, opens on Thursday, 4th of August and will run for 5 weeks.

The intention is to have a bit of fun again and examine past cultural icons that have survived by becoming hot decor images, pieces of satirical comment, collectors pieces et al.  For many of these icons, the past political references have been lost but the present retro quality is what makes them interesting. The satirical nature of the subject certainly is not incidental rather intentional.  So its time to think why many of us, have an itch for boerekitsch

You are hereby invited to participate with up to 3 small to medium sized works. Please confirm your participation by emailing either Gordon or Adrienne at gordon@gordartgallery.com or adrienne@gordartgallery.com respectively.

Have fun with this and please feel free to pass this invitation onto artists, crafters, jewellers etc who you feel might be interested in participating.

Important Details and Dates:

No participation fee is required.

Gallery Commission. A 35% gallery commission is to be included.

To calculate take the amount you wish to receive in the event the artwork is sold, divide by 65% and the total is the selling price. For example the artists price is R 750.00. Take 750 divide by 65% =1 153.84 (round up to 1 155). Therefore selling price is R 1155.00 To check: take the selling price, 1155 multiple by 35% the resulting amount (403.84) is the gallery commission, then subtract and equals and you get back to you original price, in this case R 750.00

Submission form. Please ensure that the form which follows is fully completed and accompanies all submitted work. (To fill this in online please forward email, complete and then send back to gordart Gallery).

Delivery of artwork. Works must be delivered to gordart Gallery, 78 3rd Avenue, Melville by 5pm, Saturday 30 July 2005 unless otherwise advised.

Loss and Damage. Please note that both gordart Gallery and Merely Mortal are not responsible for any loss or damage to submitted artwork but will endeavour to take care of all submitted artworks.

Payment for artwork is sold, will be made to the artist by gordart Gallery. Every effort will be made to pay artists within 30 days after the exhibition has closed, however, in the event that a delay should occur, artists will be notified by the gallery.
