"Veils, Trails and Horses Tails: New Paintings by judy Millar"
2005-07-19 until 2005-08-13
Bartley Nees Gallery
Wellington, , NZ New Zealand (Aotearoa)

The luscious title for Judy Millar's new exhibition was inspired by her recent viewing of two exhibitions in Germany, one a show of Baroque drawings and the other a large show of Rubens paintings. As Judy herself says: "Both shows were timely for me to see in terms of thinking about effect and affect in painting - in bringing to the fore movement, action and emotion in their work it struck me how much Baroque artists would use any excuse for another curve, hence their use of drapery, billowing clouds, human hair, snakes... in short veils, trails and horses tails. So the title is a little tribute to Baroque inventiveness."

Be sure not to miss this exhibition of Judy's exuberant new paintings, which despite their abstraction perversely seduce the viewer into their seemingly three-dimensional depths. This is an artist on a roll - in her first year working full-time as a painter, Judy is exhibiting in Wellington, Auckland, Berlin, Zurich, Madrid, Cologne and Basel! In September, the Auckland Art Gallery will be showing a major survey exhibition of Judy's work. The gallery is proud to be able to show her newest paintings.
