"Dianne Bowen: That Will Leave A Mark"
2005-08-08 until 2005-08-27
55 Mercer Gallery
New York, NY, USA United States of America

55 Mercer Gallery announces the opening of new and recent paintings by guest artist Dianne Bowen with a reception on Saturday, August 13,2005 between 5-7pm. The show will run from August 9 - 27,2005. The exhibition entitled “That Will Leave A Mark” is Bowen’s first solo exhibition with 55 Mercer Gallery. Bowen’s works are conversations with the surface. Fossil traces can be found in the myriad of materials used leaving haunting tracks marking a history.

This body of work represents human landscapes, soliciting time. Tree branches and barbed wire expose themselves from beneath the surface like roots and veins connecting earth to body. Layers of paint and pieces of materials reveal vestiges excavated, Objects embedded, slashes, incisions and scratches, held open with wire suggest an intimate secret waiting for discovery.

Bowen’s work is a collection of marks made by life reflecting the human condition. The strength of the paintings is found in the history of life’s broken piece’s, which survived. ”Living life leaves it’s marks; I bring you mine.”
