"Take Me : I'm Yours"
2005-08-18 until 2005-09-07
Atkinson Art Gallery
Southport, , UK United Kingdom

Take Me: I'm Yours, an art exhibition‚ showcases work by Southport College and KGV college art and design and Fine Art students, and includes work by staff at the same colleges. The exhibition will be the first opportunity many of the students have had at exhibiting in a traditional gallery space and gives visitors a chance not only to see work by the artists of tomorrow but also the possibility of making a wise investment! The exhibition, organised by The Atkinson Gallery and Craig Atkinson, will include a variety of art forms, equally varied in content, from Holocaust and ducks to the ordinary and the self.

700 people from local schools and colleges were invited to take part in the project. Each person was offered the same brief, to which they had to write a proposal. The fundamental idea behind the exhibition is that the artists involved respond, in some way, to the gallery and it‚s permanent collection. Some answer this idea in a very literal way, others in a more conceptual fashion. The work that is most appropriate collectively will be displayed in the exhibition. "Take me: I'm Yours", although very ambiguous, seemed to work as a title, so we used it [it having been suggested by a colleague, and after weeks of head scratching].

The Atkinson Gallery have been great in providing this opportunity, as have Aim Higher and Sefton CSF for providing help with funding.
