"Wish/Alchemy: Steve Peters and Christine Wallers"
2005-08-30 until 2005-10-09
Center on Contemporary Art
Seattle, WA, USA

Presented as part of the IN RESONANCE exhibit at this year‚s Bumbershoot Arts Festival (curated by Fionn Meade & Rob Millis), Wish/Alchemy, an installation by artist Christine Wallers and sound artist/composer Steve Peters, consists of a series of large, spun brass bowls, each resting on a square steel plate suspended by wires from the exposed beams of the Center on Contemporary Art.

The sound is derived from many whispering voices reading over 300 contributors' written wishes for a better world. Unseen transducers attached to each bowl direct the sound through the metal, causing the bowls to resonate and quietly sing. The comprehensible words are electronically transformed into increasingly pure, abstract tones as they flow between the carefully arranged basins, moving through the space in an audible wave and returning to silence.
