2005 has been a landmark year for Lawrence Gallery as it celebrates many of its finest artists; from figures by Pablo Picasso to landscapes by Charles Palmer. In September, Lawrence Gallery Portland will once again awe and inspire audiences by dedicating its main gallery to oil paintings by Portland’s own Ann Ruttan. Ruttan has been one of Oregon’s premier artists for over two decades, and has been represented by Lawrence Gallery since 1985. Her works are included in major Northwest collections such as Nordstrom, Key Bank, University Club, NW Natural Gas, Emanuel Hospital, and US Bank.
Patron’s of Ruttan’s work will be dazzled by her new collection as they are revealed in the main gallery on 1st Thursday, September 1st. Those seeking Ruttan’s work for the first time, should look forward to large scale canvases which mirror the brilliance of the Oregon landscape. Ruttan is know for her portrayal of alluring orange sunsets and captivating fields of wild flowers.
About her own work, Ruttan says “it is my hope that the viewer gets the ‘feeling’ of a place that reflects what I’ve said. In my new work for this show, I’m concentrating on totalistic qualities, trying to simplify and dramatize what I’ve seen.”
Inspired by impressionists such as Jackson Pollack and Mark Rothko, Ruttan has once again produced a brilliant show of new works which are sure to impress even the most difficult critic.
