The Dagmar de Pooter Gallery in Antwerp presents Exile: Frie J.Jacobs. The
work of Frie J. Jacobs (1957 Belgium), grows from the idea of physical
connection with the world around us. To see is to feel. A world which is
essentially incomprehensible, we dont know where we come from and where we
go to. So, he makes physical works with fire and soot, plants and moss,
charcoal and rain, but also he uses photography, digital printing,
projections or even video.
He paints like a painter without paint...Its always pure poetry.
Dagmar De Pooter presents the Exile Project: in this work one can realize
its not the imitation of a world. Its just the natural reality what we
see, but in a way it remembers us at an indefinable desire to an origin we
do not understand. Exile means banishment. Those series collect rough
images of nature. The photos show very intense and subtle images. A sort
of banished physical memory which brings back the spectator to a lost
source.
