"Fuzzy at Centennial Square"
2005-09-10 until 2005-11-06
Oakville Galleries
Oakville, ON, CA Canada

Fuzzy is curated by Scott Sawtell and features work by Michael Jacob Ambedian, Cathy Cahill, Toni Latour, Kelly Mark, Yana Movchan and Mary Catherine Newcomb This exhibition is presented at Centennial Square until the beginning of November. Both the stereotype of the artist as a tortured being and the requirement for artwork to be serious and dark has come into question in the past decade. Why can’t artwork be important and be fun, humorous, loving, light and Fuzzy?

Fuzzy explores the loving and playful exchanges between artists and their pets. The artists have in common an emotional engagement with their pets and view them as equal and loving participants in a cooperative dynamic to explore issues of identity, metamorphosis, innocence and irony. In many cases, the artistic process and the nature of creativity is explored, as many works are reliant on the unpredictable nature of animals to complete them. Our fuzzy friends take centre stage in all the artworks in Fuzzy.

Curator Scott Sawtell is an art instructor at Georgian College in Barrie, Ontario. He has an M.F.A from the University of Waterloo and is a graduate of the Ontario College of Art and Design.
