Curated by Julian Laffan Retroactive is an exhibition that aims to create a dialogue between past and present art practice with reference to the identity of the emerging artist. Retroactive involves four established artists exhibiting work from an earlier in their career. In turn each piece became the stimulus for four emerging artists to respond to. Included are Vivienne Binns, Bob Boynes, Steven Holland and Patsy Payne.
Responding to their work respectively are Karena Keys, Trevelyan Clay, Bernie Slater and Julian Laffan.
Retroactive is the culmination of conversation, reflection and reaction between artists thereby creating a dialogue that cross issues and boundaries of time.
CCAS is a centre for the experience of leading contemporary art in the ACT. It presenting a program of exhibitions and events by Australian and international artists.
Established in 1987, CCAS is a non-profit organisation with a Board of Management. It presents over 40 contemporary art projects annually in the ACT, operating venues in two separate locations, with four artistic programs. The exhibition program is a dynamic mix of solo, group, curated and touring exhibitions. CCAS regularly participates in off-site projects in the ACT region.
The Manuka gallery is a project space focused on experimental contemporary art. The program regularly features artistic practice by emerging artists.
