"Peter Brooke-Ball: Sculpture and Painting"
2005-10-18 until 2005-10-29
Bettie Morton Gallery
London, , UK United Kingdom

Hot from being exhibited in Rotterdam, Brixton based artist Peter Brooke-Ball's work now comes to the most innovative and imaginative gallery in South London. Peter is primarily a sculptor of stunningly beautiful and sensual objects that reveal dark insights the more you study and handle them - these apparently innocent works of magnetic sensuality are barbed; they are salt disguised as liquid honey. He masterfully manipulates stone, bronze, leather and rope into shapes that at once seem familiar yet foreign. They are fundamental em! otions displayed as objects.

Alongside the sculptures are paintings and drawings which pick up the rhythm of the 3D work. The sumptuous paintings balance colour and form in such a subtle way that, as with the sculptures, the substance is often slow to reveal itself. And who draws these days? This man does, with such obvious verve and passion that it is not difficult to see that drawing underpins all his creations.

This show is as exhilarating as it is intriguing; a triumph for what is without question destined to become South London‚s landmark commercial gallery.
