"Call for Artists: Circus Surreal 2006, a Juried Show"

Micro Museum and Reflect-arts invite you to submit your art to Circus Surreal 2006. Circus Surreal 2006 will be an extravaganza of art work in all mediums, the theme encourages the artist to interpret this notion with their personal imagination and craft. The exhibit will run from May 1 to May 31, 2006 at Micro Museum, 123 Smith Street in Brooklyn, NY. The opening event for Circus Surreal 2006 will take place on Saturday, April 29, 2006 starting at 6 pm and will also include performances, open bar and hors d’oeuvres.

Artists chosen to participate will receive invitations to distribute; Micro Museum and Reflect-arts will provide all PR and marketing services as well as our own mailing within New York City.

Award
Best of show: one month solo show at Micro Museum in the fall of 2006, including opening party, marketing materials and public relations.

Jurors
Kathleen Laziza, Executive Director, Micro Museum
Kathleen Laziza has been selecting artists work for public exhibition and advising artists about their work for exhibition at Micro Museum since it was first open in 1986. Prior to Micro Museum she curated shows for cable TV and dozens of programs with dance, theater, video and visual art for galleries, art spaces and nightclubs in NYC.

Juliette Pelletier, Executive Director, Reflect-Arts, inc.
Juliette Pelletier has over a decade of experience working in the arts. She is an accomplished visual artist who has exhibited in over thirty individual and group shows internationally. Ms. Pelletier has promoted emerging talent and has independently curated exhibitions and arts-related events in the US, Canada and Switzerland since 1997.

Calendar
March 1 - submissions to be post-marked by or on March 1
March 8 - notifications sent to artists (acceptance form sent to artists invited to participate)
March 27 - artist’s signed acceptance form to be received by Micro Museum
April 22- Deadline of art to arrive at Micro Museum
Opening Party April 29, 2006
Show runs to May 31, 2006
Pick up of work by June 18

Image Submissions
$30 for three images

Slides:
Standard 2” x 2” plastic or paper mounts.
Label slides with number corresponding to the entry form, artist’s name and an arrow on top right

CD:
300 dpi, .jpg or .tiff
Label files with artist’s name and number corresponding to entry form, please mark artist’s name on the CD itself

Video Art:
VHS, DVD, or mini DV submissions should be limited to a no more than a ten minute presentation

SASE for return of materials and notification card
Non-refundable check or money order for $30 for 3 images

Eligibility
Artists residing in the United Stated
Original works in any medium (gallery space permitting) completed within the last 3 years
2-D works must be ready for hanging, should not weigh over 10 lbs or measure more than 60” in any direction.
3-D works should not measure over 40”
Works with special instillation will only be included if artist is available to install
Works accepted may be withdrawn at the Jurors’ discretion
No substitutions of accepted works
All accepted works will remain on display during the duration of the exhibit

Insurance and Liability
Artists are responsible for insuring their own work or video equipment. Micro Museum will not be responsible for loss or damage to work or video equipment.

Delivery and Pick-up
Works must be received ready for installation by or on April 24
Video artists responsible for providing their own equipment
Pack in reusable containers, artist is responsible for pick up, return shipment and costs of return shipment of work
Works not retrieved by the deadline June 18. Works not retrieved is not the responsibility of Micro Museum, the gallery may discard the work after 30 days or risk having their work stored in an non-archival space

Sales and Copyright
All pieces will be for sale, a 30% commission will be charged on works sold. Your entry grants permission for use of images on all promotional materials.
