"Over One Hundred absolutearts.com Artists to Participate in the Fourth Edition of the Florence Biennale"
2005-12-03 until 2005-12-08
Biennale Internazionale dell’Arte Contemporanea
Florence, , IT Italy

The fifth edition of the Florence Biennale will take place from the 3rd to the 11th of December 2005 in the historic Fortezza da Basso. In 2001 the United Nations recognized the Florence Biennale as an official partner in the program "Dialogue Among Nations".The fourth edition of the Florence Biennale took place from the 6th to the 14th of December 2003. Despite differences of language and faith, 890 artists from 72 nations found a common language in art, illustrating Kofi Annan's statement: "Artists have a special role to play in the global struggle for peace. At their best, artists speak not only to people; they speak for them. Art is a weapon against ignorance and hatred and an agent of public awareness… Art opens new doors for learning, understanding, and peace among people and nations.:

Internationally renowned artists Christo and Jeanne-Claude will present a projection on their work at the 5th Florence International Biennale of Contemporary Art on Thursday, December 8, 2005, at 5pm. At the conclusion of the presentation, Pasquale Celona, President of the Florence Biennale, will award the artists the Premio Lorenzo il Magnifico for Lifetime Career Achievement.

Prof. John Spike is glad to inform that artist Richard Anuszkiewicz will receive the Career Award “Lorenzo il Magnifico” during the Florence Biennale 2005. The artist will also be giving a conference.

Richard Anuszkiewicz, born in Erie, Pennsylvania, was educated at the Cleveland Institute of Art, Yale University, and Kent State University in Ohio. A student of Josef Albers, he shares Albers' fascination with shapes and their relationships to color. Considered a major force in the op art movement, Anuszkiewicz is concerned with the optical changes that occur when different high-intensity colors are applied to the same geometric configurations.

Among the hundreds of artists exhibiting this year are many absolutearts.com Portfolio Artists, whose inclusion was based on the jury's preliminary research at absolutearts.com.
