Indepth Arts News: "India, As Opposed To India" 2005-12-16 until 2005-01-13 Ileana Tounta Contemporary Art Centre Athens, , GR Greece
As Ioanna Kostika explains:
"The title mirrors the contradiction of the perception that I had of India before I actually got there and the reality that I faced, as well as the contradictions within the culture itself.
"The images I had before I arrived there were those of an exotic place, a place totally different, foreign. These images initially attracted me to visit the place.
"Searching for what it is that unites us, I discovered that I am attracted to the things that seem different. Even though everything seemed new, what I saw rather brought me closer to this place, than distanced me."

Ileana Tounta Contemporary Art Centre presents work by Ioanna Kostika December 16 through January 13, 2006. The title of the exhibition is India, As Opposed To India and consists of photographs that are also included in the homonymous publication. The idea of the exhibition is to present images of a different culture in a way that will not differentiate it from any other. The photographs that purposely present no specific place create a feeling of familiarity that connects them to a wider human condition.
