"Pigment as Space: David Foss and Antonio Puri"
2005-12-16 until 2006-02-11
High Street Design
Millville, NJ, USA United States of America

High Street Design at 16 East Pine Street in Milville, New Jersey, will be hosting PIGMENT AS SPACE through February 11, 2006. Main gallery will be showcasing PIGMENT AS SPACE the art of David Foss and Antonio Puri. Both Puri and Foss are Non-Objective painters from Philadelphia and New York City. Antonio Puri studied Art across the globe - from Spain to Iowa, India to San Francisco. He drew inspiration from the Spanish Masters, French Impressionists, Abstract Expressionists, and the Dadaists. But none of these would match the simple awe he saw in the world itself.

Curiously, at the same time Antonio's passion for Art was reaching its full harmonic, he was simultaneously leading a double-life, studying law at the University of Iowa. At 29 Antonio became part of the Illinois State Bar as a corporate attorney and gave it up within five years to pursue art full-time. It is perhaps his experience as a lawyer, where words are twisted and thrown like weapons, that makes Antonio hesitant in speaking of his work. Ask him the meaning of a particular piece, and his face fills with a vague pain. "I'm not a writer. If I were I would talk about it. But it's not that I don't want to. I can't. I can only say it in the colors. That's where the meaning is. Colors are universal."

David Foss was born in St. Paul, Minnesota in 1959 and grew up in the Midwest. He earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in Sculpture from the University of Colorado in Boulder in 1986 and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy/Religious Studies from Augustana College in Sioux Falls, SD in 1981.

Since moving to Philadelphia in 1989, his life has revolved around the visual arts. When not fully committed as a non-objective painter and sculptor, he has been employed as an arts administrator with the City of Philadelphia, Exhibitions Coordinator with the Wood Turning Center, and also serves as the Director of the Da Vinci Art Alliance, a non-profit artist cooperative in the South Philadelphia.

Antonio Puri is one of the original members at absolutearts.com, maintaining a portfolio since 2000. View more of his art at: http://www.absolutearts.com/portfolios/k/kantonio/
