"Dearraindrop: Magic Brain"
2005-12-17 until 2006-02-20
Perugi artecontemporanea
Padua, , IT Italy

Dearraindrop come to Italy with the solo show Magic Brain. Dearraindrop is made up of young US artists (Billy Grant, Joe Grillo, Laura Grant), who live in Virginia Beach. Dearraindrop, promise, or maybe threaten, to flood the gallery space with ''the most insane / over the top, ultra psychedelisized installation'' ever seen. A Dearraindrop show is an encyclopaedic bazaar which exhibits everything deliciously artificial which one might expect to find in a teenager's bedroom, with a fantastic effect of barbaric chaos and irrepressible vital exultation. Anything is possible in the magical kaleidoscopes they create, in a jubilant explosion of forms and saturated fluorescent colours. The show is curated by Guido Bartorelli.

The Peruvian artist Begona Morales (although of the Mexican school) comes to Europe in the galleria Perugi with the installation The Power of the Smoke Hole, focusing on the subject of the home. The domestic environment, a place of the intimacy and security of family life is immortalised in the moment of an explosion, when the architectural elements are still there, recognisable in their old function, but already at a point of separation, blown away on the wave of the blast. It is a metaphor for the ''big bang'', to which, today more than ever, the entire structure of the values and certainties of our lives is exposed. At the same time it could be seen in a less dramatic way as an effective realisation which moves from a reflection on an internal question to a specifically artistic and architectural one, that of structure and its decomposition.
