Art seeks diverse ways of understanding reality. Kiasma's international exhibition ARS 06 focuses on meaning of art as part of the reality of our time. Approximately 40 artists and collectives from almost 20 countries are to participate in the exhibition. ARS 06 exhibition, opening in January 2006, concentrates on art's role as a part of the human experience. The central theme of the exhibition our ability for good and evil. On the other art can offer consolation and touching experiences in the changing world.
The curator team is chaired by Dr. Tuula Karjalainen, the director of Kiasma. The criterion for the choice of artists is the ability of their works to speak to today's audiences. In the exhibition, the participating artists will either present several works or one extensive work.
All ARS exhibitions have aroused discussion and many of the works exhibited have continued to live on in the minds of the spectators. Each ARS exhibition has formed a picture of its time and offered unforgettable experiences. Now the 7th international ARS exhibition is an important review of contemporary art in the 21st century. The first ARS exhibition was held in 1961.
The works will be accompanied by changing projects. The programme is varied and includes events, seminars, workshops and lectures. A special ARS progamme is presented also in Kiasma Theatre. The exhibition catalogue is published in January.
In connection to the exhibition, Kiasma will produce a series of ARS-products called Minor Blessings. The series include e.g. chocolate, candels, soap, notebook and rubbing oil.
